Zari is gold — real or fine metallic thread — couched onto the cloth flower by flower, a craft as old as the courts our region once dressed. Here it is worked into an all-over floral jaal, with sequins catching between the vines and a heavier stone-and-sequin border where the light should gather, all done by hand in our pind.
The ground is a lustrous rani-pink silk that throws light on its own, so the gold reads warm rather than brassy. The jaal covers the kurta front and back and condenses into an ornate hem; the matching dupatta is scattered with gold butis and edged to echo the border.
