Cotton & Khadi
Breathable, honest, handspun — everyday luxury with the deepest roots of any Indian cloth.
- Heritage
- Pan-Indian; khadi in particular is hand-spun, hand-woven cotton tied to India's independence movement and village economies.
- How it's made
- Khadi is spun by hand on a charkha and woven on handlooms; fine mill cottons like mulmul are machine-spun but prized for the same breathability.
What are cotton and khadi?
Cotton needs no introduction — but within Indian ethnic wear it spans a whole spectrum, from crisp poplin kurta cloth to cloud-soft mulmul to khadi: cotton that is hand-spun on a charkha and hand-woven on a loom, with the slight irregularities that make each metre genuinely unique.
Cultural significance
Khadi is the most symbolically loaded fabric in India. During the independence movement it became the cloth of self-reliance — spun in homes, woven in villages, worn as a statement. That village-economy lineage is close to our heart: like khadi, everything we make comes from a pind, stitched by hands that are named and known, not from an anonymous factory floor.
How it’s made
Khadi’s texture comes from human rhythm — hand-spun yarn varies subtly in thickness, so the woven cloth carries a gentle slub that machine fabric can’t reproduce. It is warm in winter and cool in summer, an old claim that holds true because of the yarn’s loft. Fine mill cottons like mulmul trade the slub for silk-soft smoothness while keeping the breathability.
Made to measure with us
Cotton and khadi are the backbone of our co-ord sets — kurta-palazzo pairs, printed shirt-and-trouser sets, and everyday Anarkalis you can actually wear for eight hours. Made-to-measure matters most here: a well-cut cotton set looks intentional and sharp, where an ill-fitting one just looks casual.
Care instructions
- Machine or hand wash cold; cotton is the easiest fabric here to live with.
- Starch lightly for crispness, or leave soft for drape.
- Line-dry in shade to keep colours from fading.
- Iron while slightly damp for the cleanest finish.
